This was my fifth time going to the Sziget Festival. At this point, every year I was getting more gigs. This made the festival incredible.
Sziget Express 2014
Just like the last couple of years, I got the chance to play on the Sziget Express from the Netherlands to Hungary. This year we had ‘Absolut Vodka’ as the sponsor of our train, so you can imagine this being a great trip. There were also a lot of friends on board, which is always great.
Sziget 2014 pre party
After the big succes last year in Instant, we got the chance to play here again. This time, not in the basement, but on the main floor. It was crowded but to honest, I liked playing in the basement much more. The vibe is just different.
Sziget 2014 line up
On the festival itself I got booked to perform twice on the Snowattack stage. This stage was on the main road and I had to perform right after some headliners. It was totally packed and the VJ was amazing. Check out the lighting in the pic above.
After being in some tough times financially, Sziget decided to go all out once again with their line-up. Their marketing strategy also changed, with a great new logo and a new slogan: “Sziget: Island of Freedom”. Main acts this year were Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Queens of the Stone Age, Bastille, Lily Allen, The Prodigy, Ceelo Green, Skrillex, alvin Harris, Imagine dragons, Stromae, Bonobo, Kelis, Outkast, Blink 182 and Deadmau5. This year, there were so many great artists that you actually couldn’t see all because they were performing at the same time.
Sziget 2014 drum and bass
Of course, I played two drum and bass sets. My friend, DJ Iron-Ic, also played a nice drum and bass set. The biggest drum and bass act at Sziget 2014 was Black Sun Empire, also coming from my hometown Utrecht.
